We are finally getting a dog! Nathan and I have wanted one for the longest time. The backyard at our old house was as small as a postage stamp. So, we didn't have much of a yard for a dog to run in. We've made getting a dog a priority since we now have a big yard!Nathan and I drove to Spokane to visit a dog breeder in early December. We met with the breeder who is just the nicest woman. We also got to meet the pregnant mama dog Francis, and a couple of the dogs from her previous litter.
The breed is called "Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier." I have allergies to dogs, so we had to find a breed that was hypoallergenic. The list of hypoallergenic dogs include poodles, shih tzus, bichon frise, and pomeranian. Mostly what you would call "lap dogs." Although we loves these breeds, we wanted a larger dog that Nathan could rough-house with, and that we could take camping.
The litter was born on December 21st, and will be ready go to their homes on March 6th! We just found out last week that we are getting a boy puppy! The puppies mother is the #10 Wheaten in the United States, and the puppies father is the #4 Wheaten in Canada. The puppies were bred with their health and temperament in mind so we are confident we're getting a wonderful dog!
We are still trying to think of names, so if anyone has a suggestion, please let us know. I have also included a poll on the blog that includes some of the names we have been considering. Please vote to let us know what your favorite is!
The top picture is of the father of the puppies (Indy) and bottom is the mother of the puppies (Frances). Check them out: Burdigan Wheatens.
